WHO LINKS TO ME?

You  probably came here because you want to know who is linking to you by doing a search for who links to me or who links to you or a website? The following video gives us an idea of just how complex and important the answer to the question who is linking to my site. It is also an introduction to the complex universe of the internet.

If you cannot wait for the answer, then look for a painting of a poppy and click on the image. If you can wait and want to know a little more before you go there then continue reading or use yet another backlink checker tool

Who links to me is question that many independent website builders are going to ask at some point in time. It is unavoidable ! This is being written for the "rest of us" but the question is continually on the mind of an SEO. The question that an SEO might be asking on a continual basis not only deals with who is linking to my site but also:

1. What kind of link?

2. What kind of site is linking to me?

3. What is the page rank of that site or page?

4. Who else is being linked to from that page?

5. How old is the site that links to my page?

If you do not know why someone might be asking the above question then please continue to read further :-

Most links given to websites nowadays are not really what we should call "true hyperlinks" because they are NO FOLLOW LINKS. Most people in the know who run blogs for example often allow others to leave a mention of the website of the one who is commenting but do not allow the links to follow except of course for the group which secretly collaborates for mutual benefit. If you spend some time investigating you can begin to recognize patterns that lead you to this conclusion. These patterns might not be easily detected by search engines but you can see them if you spend enough time inside someone's hidden link wheels

Some people believe that this is immoral but whether it is or not you cannot really stop this and the same applies to most business conducted in the world. Free trade is actually a myth because there are always groups that scheme to monopolize anything that is becoming popular enough to make money out of it. Whatever you are thinking, someone else probably thought about it long before you did and has already set the wheels in motion to capture a large percentage of the profits from it. Blogs for example, rely on the ignorance of those who comment to boost their own content. The same applies to websites which use programs to scan the net looking for unique articles and content to simply make use of them in a clever way.  Some might call it plagiarism on a massive scale while others say it is simply being inventive.

BLOGS ARE NOT CONSIDERED TO BE WEBSITES

Luckily blogs are categorized differently by search engines and different spider robots are used to index them now.  Some people believe that there is nothing unique about most blogs and say that they are simply a collection of other people's comments and writing stuffed together on a website. They say that the beginning of the thread is original but the collation of other people's thoughts and ideas is not.  Some believe that blogs are a method of collating original content from others for one's own personal gain.  I personally believe that these people saying these things might not have considered that there are still certain blogs with no PPC ads and that the owners of these blogs are more concerned about the content being discussed rather than using others for keyword stuffing and monetization. On the other hand some blog owners could make out that they are not making any money from the blog but if you spend time studying what sites they are giving true hyperlinks to you will quickly realize that although there is no obvious income being made from the blog that it is simply part of a cleverly designed link wheel and nothing else. Link wheels are everywhere and most popular sites are part of them. Lets stop pretending shall we?

                    BEING HONEST ABOUT WANTING MONEY

There is nothing wrong with wanting more money but  people's desire for more personal gain can be cloaked by a false outward appearance that would have you believe that they are doing it out of love when actually the true intent is for the love of money. So, lets get real and ask ourselves "Are we doing this for the money?" If the answer is yes, then at least we have made a step forward and are walking away from a circle of people who are living in complete denial. Would I want to make money from this site? Yes, of course I would! Would I do things on a website with the aim of making money? The answer is Yes!  If someone is saying "No!" then you need to ask yourself whether or not you are suffering from a disease called hypocrisy. This kind of disease can affect us in all walks of life . Some people believe that everyone in the world is somehow a thief in some way. Some writers have classified thieves into two groups. One group of thieves stole everything and left absolutely nothing for their victims while the others always left something behind. Everyone in the world has taken something from someone else. There is no denying this!  Maybe some people never think deeply enough about this. If you do you may be asking questions like what is the source of everything anyway? Or maybe some of us might ask "Who is the source?"

LIVING IN DENIAL ABOUT YOUR PURPOSE ON THE NET

People need to decide why they are doing something. If it is for money, then don't waste time pretending it is for something else. Maybe as you make money you also want to leave something for others to make money too. Then you will be classified by some as the good thief and not the unmerciful one. On this website UNIQUE CONTENT has been discussed but please note that it is being discussed from the perspective of a machine robot or web crawler that spiders the internet looking for patterns which are different than others.  So, as part of your website building process you will be working on a principle to deliver what a machine considers to be unique.
